Thailand's retail media networks are three years ahead of the plans that buy them
The inventory is sophisticated. The measurement briefs arriving from regional teams are not, and the gap is being paid for in wasted first-party data.

Thai retail media has moved fast. What is on offer now is closed-loop, addressable and measurable to the basket, and it is being bought with briefs written for display.
Bought as reach, sold as measurement
The brief asks for impressions in a demographic. The network can answer a far better question, which is what a given audience bought afterwards, and it will answer the question it was asked. The measurement is then reconciled against a regional dashboard that has no field for it, so the most valuable output of the buy is discarded at the reporting stage.
Fixing it is a briefing change, not a budget one
- Ask for the outcome metric the network can actually produce, before agreeing the rate.
- Agree where that metric lands in the regional report, before the campaign runs. A metric with nowhere to go is deleted by default.
- Treat the retailer's data as a term of the deal rather than a bonus, because in this market it is the product.
They are selling closed-loop measurement and we keep buying banner space from them. The inventory is not the thing that needs to catch up.
