Pakistan's audience went mobile-only, and the creative did not

A market that skipped desktop is being served work cut for a screen most of its audience has never used. The tell is in the first three seconds.

The regional master is landscape, built to be re-cut. It is re-cut, delivered, and it underperforms against work that was framed vertically from the start. This is not a resolution problem and it is not a subtitle problem.

What re-cutting throws away

A vertical crop of a landscape frame keeps the subject and loses the composition. Everything the director used to hold attention through the opening seconds, the space around the subject, the movement across the frame, is outside the crop. What survives is a person talking in a box, competing against work that was composed for the box.

The cheap fix is not more versions

It is shooting the vertical on the same day, with the same people, as a first-class deliverable rather than an export. On a shoot that is already happening the marginal cost is small. Reordered after the fact it is a second production, which is why it usually never happens and the crop ships instead.

This market never had a desktop era. Asking it to watch a landscape edit is asking it to watch something made for a room it has not been in.
